To celebrate a classic American holiday, you need to have a classic American dessert. But even the classics can be made better with a creative remix, and our Apple Crisp with Topknot Pretzel Crumb Topping is a perfect example. It has all the sweet cinnamon flavors you know and love from a traditional Apple Crisp, but with a pretzel crumb topping that takes it to new heights.
Put all ingredients into stand mixer* and, using paddle attachment, mix until it just starts to come together, but is still crumbly. Mixture should look like wet sand.
*If no stand mixer, you can use the tips of your fingers to bring the mixture together.
Filling
Thinly slice apples.
Toss apples with the sugar and lemon and spread evenly into 9x9 baking dish.
Sprinkle the pretzel crumb topping over the apple in a nice thick layer.
Bake at 350 degrees 45-55 minutes until golden brown on top and bubbly.
Note: We use Granny Smith apples for tartness, and Honeycrisp for sweetness.
