Apple Crisp with Topknot Pretzel Crumb Topping

To celebrate a classic American holiday, you need to have a classic American dessert. But even the classics can be made better with a creative remix, and our Apple Crisp with Topknot Pretzel Crumb Topping is a perfect example. It has all the sweet cinnamon flavors you know and love from a traditional Apple Crisp, but with a pretzel crumb topping that takes it to new heights.

Ingredients:

      Pretzel Crumb Topping

  • 1 Eastern Standard Provisions Co. Topknot Signature XL Soft Pretzels
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups light brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 oz butter, cubed
  • 1 cup oats

      Filling

  • 6 medium sized apples
  • 3 tablespoons Eastern Standard Provisions Co. French Toast Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

      Pretzel Crumb Topping

  • Cut cold butter into small cubes
  • Cut Topknot into 1/4 inch pieces
  • Put all ingredients into stand mixer* and, using paddle attachment, mix until it just starts to come together, but is still crumbly. Mixture should look like wet sand.

*If no stand mixer, you can use the tips of your fingers to bring the mixture together.

       Filling

  • Thinly slice apples.
  • Toss apples with the sugar and lemon and spread evenly into 9x9 baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the pretzel crumb topping over the apple in a nice thick layer.
  • Bake at 350 degrees 45-55 minutes until golden brown on top and bubbly.

Note: We use Granny Smith apples for tartness, and Honeycrisp for sweetness.
